Priorities for Burlingame

Burlingame is defined by its neighborhoods, schools, and local businesses. My priorities focus on maintaining what works, addressing challenges as they arise, and delivering practical solutions grounded in years of local service.

Public Safety, Fire Prevention, and Emergency Preparedness

Keeping Burlingame safe requires a proactive, community-wide approach to public safety. I will focus on:

  • Public safety infrastructure and staffing across police, fire, and emergency services

  • Emergency preparedness and response planning

  • Neighborhood safety through thoughtful planning and enforcement

Fire safety is also a critical concern, especially in areas like Mills Canyon, where wildfire risk requires ongoing vigilance. I will prioritize:

  • Proactive vegetation management and defensible space enforcement in high-risk areas like Mills Canyon and our easements

  • Improved emergency access, evacuation route planning, and real-world readiness testing

  • Stronger coordination with regional fire agencies on prevention, response, and funding

This ensures Burlingame is prepared not just for today’s needs, but for emerging risks.

Safe, Connected Streets

Public safety also depends on how people move through our city. Traffic congestion, speeding, and unsafe crossings affect families, students, and seniors every day. I will focus on:

  • Traffic flow on known congestion points—not just citywide concepts

  • Safe routes to school with targeted, data-driven improvements

  • Pedestrian and bicycle safety where incidents occur

With 10 years on the Burlingame Traffic Safety and Parking Commission, including three terms as chair, I bring direct experience improving Burlingame’s streets.

Parks, Recreation, and Community Spaces

Access to parks and shared spaces is essential to Burlingame’s quality of life—and demand is growing. With five years on the Parks and Recreation Commission, I’ve worked directly on planning, prioritizing, and improving the spaces our community relies on. I will work to:

  • Advance a clear plan to expand public spaces for indoor sports, wellness, and performing arts—not just study the idea

  • Increase access to multi-use community facilities for all ages

  • Maintain and improve existing parks and open spaces

  • Ensure new development contributes to shared community amenities

My focus will be on projects that can move forward—not just ideas that stay on the drawing board.

Thoughtful Growth and Housing

Housing requires a balanced approach—meeting state requirements while protecting Burlingame’s character and infrastructure. I will support:

  • Smart, well-located housing near transit and downtown areas

  • Protecting existing neighborhoods from overdevelopment

  • Increasing housing options for seniors, families, and workforce residents

  • Aligning infrastructure, schools, and services with growth

I will prioritize practical, balanced solutions that reflect our community’s needs and support long-term stability.

Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability

With 15 years of experience overseeing school bond spending, including six years as chair, I bring direct experience in financial oversight and accountability. I will prioritize:

  • Responsible budgeting and long-term financial planning

  • Transparent decision-making and clear public communication

  • Strategic investment in infrastructure, roads, and facilities

  • Careful evaluation of new projects and commitments

Experience managing real budgets helps keep existing commitments on track and ensures new city investments are practical and sustainable.

Local Businesses and a Vibrant Downtown

Our local businesses are central to Burlingame’s identity and economy. I will:

  • Support small businesses and local entrepreneurs

  • Strengthen our Broadway and Burlingame Avenue downtown districts as destinations

  • Improve access, parking, and transit connections to both downtown areas

  • Encourage a diverse mix of retail, dining, and services

Supporting local businesses requires strategic planning that takes a holistic view—from economic development programs to the infrastructure that supports access, parking, and foot traffic—so improvements are practical and coordinated.

Environmental Sustainability and Resilience

Protecting Burlingame’s environment is essential for long-term health and safety. I will support:

  • Climate resilience and preparedness for natural hazards

  • Sustainable infrastructure and energy use

  • Protection of open space and the bayfront ecosystem

  • Policies that reduce emissions while maintaining a high quality of life

This ensures a safe and sustainable Burlingame for future generations.
